What if the ordinary could become extraordinary?
Step into a studio where technical mastery meets imagination. The Surrealist Atelier: Transforming the Ordinary into the Extraordinary is a 12-week studio workshop designed for adult artists who want to strengthen their drawing and painting skills while exploring the mysterious world of Surrealism.
Inspired by the works of René Magritte and other Surrealist artists, this course is led by instructor Alex Martinez, a practicing Surrealist artist. Through observational drawing, thoughtful drawing and painting exercises, and creative studio investigations, students learn to transform everyday objects into compelling visual narratives without sacrificing realism or craftsmanship.
Each week combines focused technical demonstrations with extended studio practice, allowing artists to develop confidence in composition, color, value, perspective, and drawing and painting techniques while discovering a personal symbolic language. Rather than copying Surrealist masterpieces, students are encouraged to ask visual questions, experiment with metaphor, and develop original ideas through a supportive, student-centered studio environment.
Designed for emerging and experienced artists alike, the workshop culminates in a finished surrealist painting that reflects each artist’s unique vision and technical growth.
