Structure & Anatomy of the Head
Saturday June 7 & Sunday June 8
10am-2pm
$250
Join celebrated artist and author Roberto Osti in his newest workshop at the FAAM
The head and face are probably the most rewarding parts of the human figure for an artist to draw or paint. They can also be an intimidating subject because of its inherent complexities. This two day-workshop is organized on a systematic methodology that will give the students access to the knowledge and techniques necessary to master and enjoy drawing this challenging, yet satisfying, subject.
Roberto will give short drawing demonstrations discussingthe structure and planes of the head, the facial features and their proper position in the face.
Students will then draw portraits from life and practice the fundamental elements of tonal rendering using two essential techniques: graphite on white paper and charcoal and chalk on toned paper.
Materials
A drawing pad of good quality paper such as Strathmore Drawing series 400, medium surface about 14” by 17” or any other type of drawing paper of decent quality. Don’t use newsprint.
a sketchbook for taking notes during the morning demonstrations
Graphite pencils in HB-B gradations, colored pencils in black, blue and red earth, (such as burnt Sienna or Indian red).
You can also bring compressed charcoal pencils in hard, medium and soft or B, 2B and 4B. Wolff’s carbon is a particularly good brand, but General’s is also sufficiently good and cheaper.
kneaded eraser and/or Mars plastic eraser; sharpeners and sandpaper.
You might also want to bring a couple of sheet of tan toned paper and white chalk pencils
