Join celebrated artist and author Roberto Osti in his newest workshop at the FAAM!
The head and face are probably the most rewarding parts of the human figure for an artist to draw or paint. They can also be an intimidating subject because of its inherent complexities. This two-day workshop is organized using a systematic methodology that will give you access to the knowledge and techniques necessary to master and enjoy drawing this challenging yet satisfying subject.
During the two days of this workshop, Roberto will follow each participant individually, giving personalized instruction and technical advice. He will also give short drawing demonstrations, discussing the structure and planes of the head, the facial features and their proper position in the face.
The students will draw portraits from a Female model from life and practice the fundamental elements of tonal rendering using two essential techniques: graphite on white paper and charcoal and chalk on toned paper or any drawing technique of the student’s choice.
Materials
The participants can use any material and drawing techniques they prefer, this is a list of materials that will permit you to practice a variety of drawing techniques:
A drawing pad of good quality paper such as Strathmore Drawing series 400, medium surface about 14” by 17” or any other type of drawing paper of decent quality; a couple of sheet of tan or gray toned paper.
Graphite pencils in HB-B-2B gradations, and/or colored pencils in black, white and red earth, (such as burnt Sienna or Indian red), and/or red, black and white pastels or crayons.
Compressed charcoal pencils in hard, medium and soft or B, 2B and 4B. Wolff’s carbon is a particularly good brand, but General’s is also sufficiently good and cheaper. White chalk or pastel in pencils or sticks.
Kneaded eraser and/or Mars plastic eraser; sharpeners and sandpaper.
A small sketchbook for taking notes during the morning demonstrations can be useful.
