Fall Foliage in Plein Air

$99.00

With Eric Santoli

Saturday October 17, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM

All Skill Levels

Plein air painting is the practice of stepping out of the studio to work directly in the environment. It has a fascinating history that evolved greatly in the 19th century, and today it remains a therapeutic and exciting way to draw, paint, and create in nature.

This workshop takes students through the plein air process: choosing a spot, working with environmental factors, and using nature as an ally to create a work of art. You can sketch, draw, or paint in watercolor, acrylic, or oils, and we'll share additional history and stories along the way.

Working outdoors teaches decision making and speed, and like any art process, it can be learned and refined with practice and guidance. Eric focuses on the principles of art, such as shape, value, and color, which apply to any subject matter. We'll also cover the materials of working en plein air, including easel choices, palette options, lightweight packing, and other on-location considerations.

This workshop takes place at Brookdale Park

Supplies…

You can bring any tools you are comfortable working with, whether they are oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, or even just sketching.

It is recommended to bring a chair if you wish to sit, a travel easel or pochade box & tripod. A more detailed supply list will be forthcoming.
