Pictorial Logic: Practical Composition for Artists

$95.00

February 21 @202 Park Street
11am - 4pm

Ever say to yourself “man, I really don’t think about composition in my work.”

This workshop is for you, then. It distills a lot of the fancy art talk about design and composition into practical information you can start applying right away. We’ll go over some basic principles and elements of design, look at art and discuss how we think those artists used those principles/elements, and then spend the rest of the afternoon in playful ideation mode to come up with our own compositions.

In this workshop you’ll learn about:

  • the fulcrum, balance, repetition, shapes

  • high contrast and low contrast

  • the importance of differences

  • understanding how we view the world and its application to art

  • the power of value

  • the rule of thirds & informal design

Students will work from vintage photos (bring your own if you have any), as well as bring older paintings that didn’t quite work out and may just need a little compositional touch up.

This workshop is beginner friendly, but ideal for advanced-beginners and intermediate students.
