Painting Beyond the Visible: Building Timeless Figurative Paintings

$189.00

A Four Week Intensive

Tuesdays August 4-25
7-9:30PM

Great paintings are not simply images of the world. They create worlds of their own.

Over four weeks, students will develop one fully realized figurative painting from concept to completion. The course will focus on the choices that give a painting lasting impact: composition, editing, color, atmosphere, symbolism, and mystery.

Students will learn how to create paintings that suggest rather than explain, allowing the viewer to connect through personal memory and experience. Every element of the painting should have purpose, and what is left unsaid can be just as powerful as what is revealed.

Through the study of artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Édouard Manet, Lucian Freud, Gerhard Richter, Jenny Saville, Michael Borremans, Marlene Dumas, and Philip Pearlstein, we will explore how painters create emotional and psychological depth.

By the end of the course, each student will complete a finished figurative painting that reflects a personal vision while applying the timeless principles of great painting.
